The 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ women’s football team have lost their first match to host country Maldives on a 1-0 score on Tuesday in the Women’s Three-Nations Friendly tourney in the Maldives.
Mariyam Noora pounced on a defensive mistake by Florence Marie in the 10th minute to beat 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ goalkeeper Mandy Gabriel to give the Daughters of the Waves the lead which they defended well to run out as the winners at the National Football Stadium.
As 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ pushed forward in search of an equaliser, striker Natacha Bibi flashed a strong shot across the face of goal in the first period before her second half effort was blocked by the Maldives goalkeeper and captain Leeza who made a double save to keep a clean sheet.
The 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ team, who rode their luck as the home side saw a lob crash against the bar, will meet the Daughters of the Waves again tomorrow.
Coached by Angeline Chua, the 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ team’s third match is against Saudi Arabia women’s national team on February 20.
