The monthly Absa Mug is always a well-supported event and the July edition was no different, plus being part of the 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Golf Federation order merit this was the last the event to conclude the final selection for the Inter Island competition in Madagascar at the end of August.

For the Absa July Mug, more than 35 players took part and some great scores were posted after the first nine holes, namely Jerry Jean-Baptiste with 31 gross (-2) and Alex Ellenberger 32 gross (-1) (gross means scores without handicap). Both opened with low scores but soon after Dewald Kruger and Margaret Pragassen came in with lower nett scores of 28 and 27 nett each (nett means scores minus your handicap). This would lead to an exciting battle in the second nine holes.

Richard Doffay, who has been very much on form, came in with a 32 gross, to tally up to a 66 nett and lead him to take third overall, Dewald Kruger kept his cool and shot a superb 61 nett and was the clubhouse leader until the last group including Margaret Pragassen came in. She had shot an extraordinary nett score of 59 to take the win from Kruger.

This is Pragassen’s first win under the under the new Absa Mug label which has replaced the Barclays Mug.

Presenting the prizes, Sonny Barra from Absa 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ expressed the bank’s continuous support to golf in 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ and call;e on all present to watch out for the many more exciting ventures they have installed for the golfing community in 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ.

On Saturday July 29, there will the John Richardson’s memorial competition organised by the Richardson family.
