SSF rewards last season’s best performers

Winners and other best performers in the various leagues and competitions hosted by the 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Football Federation last season have received their trophies and medals, along with monetary incentives made possible through the Fédération Internationale de football association Forward Programme.

The programme is built to provide 360-degree, tailor-made support for football development in each of the Fédération Internationale de football association (Fifa) member associations and the six confederations and is based on three principles which are more investment, more impact and more oversight.

Its aim is to improve the way Fifa develops and supports football across the globe so that football can reach its potential in every single country, and everyone who wants to take part can do so without barriers.

During the ‘short and sweet’ award ceremony held last Friday at the Maison Football, Roche Caïman, in the presence of vice-president of the 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Football Federation (SFF) Dolor Ernesta, chief executive Denis Rose, and executive committee members, winners and best performers from seven national leagues and competitions were rewarded.

In his address, Mr Rose noted that to qualify under the Fifa Forward Programme, the SFF as a member country (MA) had to meet a number of criteria, while the projects, legacy and impact are monitored by world football’s governing body and independently audited.

He noted that even if the SFF, for various reasons, did not meet all the required criteria, through the good relation between its president Elvis Chetty and the Fifa boss Gianni Infantino, who recently visited the country, the SFF’s proposal for a league programme received approval.

Mr Rose further explained that with the reduced sponsorship from local businesses, mostly based on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, along with judicial amendments, limiting certain previous benefits for sponsoring sports activities, the SFF, following the visit of Mr Infantino, was allowed to exceptionally submit a ‘league project’ under the programme which has made it possible to reward the competitions’ winners.

In total, best performers from seven competitions – Beach Soccer League, Mahé Premier League G1, Mahé Premier League G2, Inner Island Premier League, Championship League, SFF Cup and the National Champions League – were rewarded.
