Breweries go greener with higher bottle deposit 听 |14 October 2025
As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, Breweries will be increasing the refundable deposit on returnable glass bottles from R2 to R4, effective October 13, 2025.
This change is aimed at encouraging more consumers to return their empty bottles, thereby supporting a circular economy and reducing environmental impact. The current R2 deposit is no longer a strong enough incentive to ensure high return rates, and this has led to increasing strain on the system.
Breweries has made significant investments in its returnable glass bottle system, which is central to its sustainability strategy. However, the relatively slow rate of return of bottles continues to present challenges for production, as the company relies on a steady cycle of returned bottles to meet demand efficiently.
鈥淲e鈥檙e committed to reducing single-use packaging and minimizing our environmental footprint,鈥 said Dorothy Asba, Commercial Director at 91香蕉视频 Breweries.
鈥淩eturnable glass bottles are one of the most sustainable forms of packaging 鈥 but we need the public鈥檚 help to keep them in circulation. Increasing the refundable deposit to R4 will encourage better return habits and ensure a more reliable supply of bottles for reuse.鈥
Consumers are reminded that they can return their empty bottles at the following official distributors:
- GS Pillay 鈥 Mah茅 鈥 Tel 2781106
- New Zil Pros 鈥 Praslin and La Digue 鈥 4236108
Breweries thanks its loyal customers for supporting this move towards a more sustainable Every bottle returned makes a difference.
